DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a validation system used to verify that an email message has been sent by an authenticated server or individual. A digital signature is added to the email’s header using a private key. When the message is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to validate who exactly sent it and whether the content has been changed in any way. The principal function of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to stop the widely spread scam and spam emails, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank, for instance, but the signature doesn’t correspond, you will either not receive the message at all, or you’ll get it with an alert that most probably it’s not legitimate. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email message that fails the signature examination. DKIM will also provide you with an added layer of safety when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, since they can see that all the e-mail messages that you send are authentic and have not been manipulated in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting

In case you host a domain in a cloud hosting account with us, all the mandatory records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail option will be added by default. This will happen the moment you add the domain in , as long as it also uses our NS resource records. A private encryption key will be generated on our mail servers, whereas a public key will be sent to the global Domain Name System automatically using the TXT resource record. In this way, you won’t need to do anything manually and you will be able to make use of all the benefits of this email validation system – your emails will reach any target audience without being disallowed and nobody will be able to send emails faking your email addresses. The latter is rather important in case the type of your Internet presence involves sending periodic newsletters or offers via email to prospective and existing clients.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our semi-dedicated packages come with DKIM enabled by default, so if you opt for a semi-dedicated hosting package and you add a domain name using our name servers via your Hepsia Control Panel, the records needed for the authentication system will be created automatically – a private cryptographic key on our email servers for the digital signature and a TXT resource record carrying the public key for the DNS system. As the DKIM protection is set up for a given domain name, all addresses created under it will have a signature, so you won’t have to worry that the emails that you send out may not reach their target address or that somebody may fake any of your addresses and try to spam/scam people. This may be extremely essential when you rely on electronic communication in your business, as your associates and/or customers will be able to distinguish genuine email messages from false ones.
